Am planning a mini roadtrip – around coastal north-western Scotland – a place that is close to my heart. Harsh yet comforting landscape, warm yet tough people.

Here’s a working plan in progress – a snapshot from Google Maps – it now allows you to plot more than one destinations on the route (previously it would only allow A to B).

Since you’ve skipped John O’Groats, I assume you’ve been there before?

Alison, yup I’ve been there and to Dunnet’s Head. I can’t say I think John O’Groats is a good destination for a repeat visit – Dunnet’s Head is much better.

I know northern north Scotland like the back of my hand, having completed a geology degree at Aberdeen which required a lot of time out in the field during the 4-year course, as well as to escape the exams, skiing, etc!

I just hope the clouds are high enough to reveal the magic! Have you been up this way before Alison?

    Where’s my invitation then?!!! Huh!
